River scouting...

A group of us is planing to go for a picnic... So me and a few friends decided to check this new place out before we bring in the whole group. Lovely place, but it's 30min of dirt road.. What fun...

Don't need to explain much, the pictures speaks for itself, it's a beautiful place. There is a water fall about 600 meters (30min walk) away from the main site. Saw this along the way.. a giant millipede...

This is the water fall, there is a pool above the water fall... kinda deep, we didn't go in...

The water fall kinda small, but there is actually two, another one up stream, but I didn't take pictures of it.. was worried that I'll fall in the river with it because the water it's a bit rough. As me and my mates sit there, looking at the falls, I said to them, 'They ask us, why do we keep wanting to come back to Sabah... Just look at this(pointing at the water fall)... That's why...'

Trip to Nabawan

My dad was invited to this Majilis in Nabawan (which is 2 hours from Keningau). First of all, the event was scheduled to start at 10.30am with the Guest of Honor coming at 10.30am. Guess what, the guest of honor came an hour late. Typical Malaysian... Wonder when will it ever change. After sitting there for an hour, listening to 5 YB talking about FELCAR and politics, I had enough and asked my driver to pick me up. (He is on his way to the farm for second round, picking up oil palm fruits)

Went to the farm, look at the the area. The place in getting better, trees are bigger than a year ago. Helped with loading and unloading the fruits. Really good work out. Those fruits are not light, each is around 1-2 kg, maybe even more.

Ok, here are some of the things in the farm. This is the farm tactor which my dad got a few months ago. This cut down loading time from 3-4 hours to just 1. Plus, don't have as much prob with the pickup getting stuck in the mud and all that anymore.

This are the fruits that have been picked and ready for loading.

This is the worker's house. When the farm first opened, it was a quarter of the size you see now. The living room is the pic with blue flooring

This is the kitchen, basic but it works.

The driver was sleepy halfway to the factory, so I took over and drive. I missed doing that, driving the pickup with a load ont he back, accross drit roads.

This is the factory which we send the fruits to. Big and smelly. Don't really know why but the plam oil factories are always smelly. You see the big plam oil fruit hill? at the bottom of it, it's a hatch, it'll open when the factory operates, and it'll process it automatically.

BBQ

had some friends over for bbq... was wonderful... Iyan, our chef, marinated the lamb and chicken. He made red wine sauce as well... it was the best lamb I have ever tasted... We got Darren drunk, no that was funny.

After a while, we just sat around, talking about the old days and everything in between... Hope to have another one again...

swallow

This is interesting, I have a pair of swallows near the front door of my house. Hope to have 'yen wo' next time I get back.. haha...

Christmas tree

O Christmas tree.. O Christmas tree....
Ah, it's always nice to see the Christmas tree. Great fun setting it up with my sisters. Sadly, this time, there is no presents under the tree. (well, presents might be there when Christmas is closer, we'll wait and see)
This Christmas tree, will only be up when I am at home. Because no one likes to pack it up after Christmas.. :-(
The tree might not be up next year, so better enjoy it now.

Brunei Tour

I had to transit in Brunei before reaching Sabah, so I took the free tour that was offered. There wasn't really much to see because they just pointed and explained what the building is, while we drive through the town. Stopped for 30min for lunch, which only cost $2. Seriously, if you live there, don't think anyone will die of starvation.

Met someone in the tour as well, a Singaporean girl, who is also studying in the same uni as me. Talked to her from the time I met her at lunch till I got on my plane to Sabah. Nice gal... smart as well, doing 4 majors... respect.

Fishing...

Yesh...!!! Finally got to go fishing... Chung said he'll come at 6am to pick me up for fishing... I woke up at 5.45am, which was quite early even for me.... and Guess what, he actually came early.. at 5.50am..!!! like, man, I haven't even brushed my teeth yet..!!(eventually did brush before i left) quickly got changed (well ,just wore a pair of jeans with my sleeping clothes) and hopped on the car... and my cousin said I dressed too nicely for fishing.. mmm...

Well, today, was the first time in my life I ever put so much information about fishes and fishing in one day... like a crash course on fishing.. (FISHING101).. So, first fishing spot, was a jetty. Quite a nice spot, even have holes on the jetty to put your fishing pole. Caught small fishes there.. Actually, those are the only fish we caught the whole trip.... haha...

When to another spot, further up north. This place was a bit rocky, and my line got caught on the rocks... :-( But at least this spot, there was some 'nibbling' action on the pole. Well, that's about it really, could not catch any.

We left that spot after about 2 hrs there. On the way back, my cousin decided to stop by at a vineyard. There was wine tasting. Well, he surprised me with when he said to the lady at the counter : ' let him have a wine tasting session, for 6 types'. It was quite nice. Then, after 6 taste, he asked, 'so, which one do you like?' I pointed to 2 that I quite like, then... then..!!, He said 'right, get me these two'... I had a really blur face on.. then he smiled said' So now I solved your Christmas present' haha... ah.. coolz...

Then, since 'the day was still young'... Chung said to have one last try at this spot. It was 3pm then and I wasn't a good time to fish, because it is when the fish is lest active. Chung, started collecting 'pipi', a clam like thingy...

Then, when I was reeling in my line, i felt that it was caught on something, so I asked Chung to help me with it. When he got it lose and reel it in.. got a surprise, there was a musel on the line... Never in Chung's life has he seen or heard of people catching mussel on a fishing line... Well, there is a first time for everything.... :-p

went back after 5pm, but not before stopping by at Mc D. Gosh, it's the first time in my life that I ate so much Mc D in one day. had Macers for breakfast, lunch and pre-dinner.... woah.... after I ate that Big Mac, I really wanted to go for exe.... mmm.. might go exe tomorrow... :-p

Reach home, my uncle start to clean the fish and 'pipi'... Fried small fish... yum... eat em with the bones.... 'pipi' was nice as well... with all the 'sandy' goodness in it... mmm... ate my mussel, was quite nice...

I kept the shell to remind myself about this day, when a mussel was caught with a fishing line.. hehe...

Fire starter

I was eating chips just now because I got a sudden craving of wanting something salty. (I normally won't eat chips, don't know why, just ain't my thing)... Then I remembered my cousin talking about using chips to start a fire... and, as they say, boys will be boys.. so I went and burn it an see what happens... haha...

As you can see, 35g out of 100g(35%) of it is fat... no wonder it'll burn..... Interesting...

now... got to figure out what to do till I go back to Malaysia.... :-)

Beondegi

Today is Esther's 18th Birthday... went to a Korean Restaurant for lunch.... we have been joking about eating that Korean Bug thingy ever since we 1st went there to eat, we finally got it...

at 1st glance.. erm.. well just look at the pictures i posted... it ain't a pretty sight... and it seriously look like cockroaches... the taste, it's erm.. how to say.. unique.. haha... it ain't as bad as it looked, but after 2 spoon full of it, i start to get sick of it already... guess why?.. NO ONE ELSE (other than audi, guy with the white jacket) is willing to eat it... like argh...!!! come on... and and.. it ain't cheap.. it's like $15NZD, I think it is the most expensive dish on the table... mmm...

Note to everyone who wants to spend someone lunch, make sure you tell the owner that you are gonna pay.. this birthday girl of ours, went to get a drink and ended up paying for the lunch... gah.. didn't see that coming... thought she'll be busy being entertained by her friends...

Came home, tummy full.. and ain't feeling good now.. because I ate too much...

and.. guesss what?.. I went and google the bug, and found out how it looks like a live.. mmm... if i knew it looked like that, I don't think I'll try it in the 1st place.. o well... there is a frist thing for everything....

It's actually silkworm pupae. Beondegi are a popular snack food in Korean cuisine. Literally meaning "chrysalis" or "pupa" in Korean, Beondegi are steamed or boiled silkworm pupae which are seasoned and eaten as a snack.
